DSC07632_edited_edited.jpg

"unda" is a completely new type of footwear that combines traditional Japanese techniques with the latest modern technology, combining geta sandals with sneakers.

In today's world where lifestyles are becoming more diverse and overflowing with material things, we want to preserve Japan's traditional techniques with functionality and unprecedented design.

That's how I came to create this.

① Comfortable to wear, as if walking on clouds.

By combining Setta with sneaker soles, we have created Setta that feel like sneakers.

The midsole uses PU material and air soles.

The midsole has been adjusted to the optimal softness, and the air soles further reduce impact.

This achieves a walking experience akin to walking on clouds.

Additionally, high-durability cushioning is incorporated not only in the sole but also in the geta upper, ensuring a soft, cushioned feel even where the bare foot comes into direct contact.

If the sole is too soft, it may be difficult to walk in, but Setta are rectangular in shape when viewed from above.

Furthermore, geta have a flat surface, so your entire body weight is distributed across the soles of your feet, making them easy to balance in and stable footwear.

It is also said that geta are worn at festivals because they allow you to feel the ground more easily.

② Completely new design.

The fusion of Setta and sneakers creates a design that matches everything from casual fashion such as jeans to cutting-edge shoes for fashionistas.

Of course, they go perfectly with traditional Japanese clothing.

③ Unique way of walking and wearing unda.

The softness of the sole fits comfortably to the foot, allowing for the delicate formation of the arch of the foot.

The use of the toes is essential for the formation of the arch of the human foot.

The thong of Setta naturally encourages the use of the feet and toes.

This use of the toes is also because, when wearing shoes, the entire foot is enclosed, leading to a walking style where one pushes off with the toes.

Walking by pushing off with the toes can cause a forward-leaning posture, which may lead to issues with the knee joints, lower back, and instep.

By wearing Setta, a walking style that does not involve pushing off with the toes naturally developed in our country.

How are they different from beach sandals?

This question may arise.

Beach sandals do not have the same absorbency and cushioning properties as zori, and they are not stable because the thong part does not stretch.

When compared to zori, the thong part often causes pain. This slight difference affects the human body.

There is a unique way of wearing geta that is characteristic of Edo people, and it is considered “iki” (stylish).

unda recommends this “iki” way of wearing Setta.

We will introduce the unique characteristics of Setta, which embody the stylish and functional traditional techniques and historical culture of Japan.

(1)Wear with your little toe and heel sticking out

粋な履き方EN.png

The stylish and cool way to wear geta is to leave your little toe and heel exposed.

Therefore, choosing a smaller size is the right choice.

Unlike sandals, the thong is attached in the middle, so your little toe will inevitably stick out of the Setta. In recent years, you may see Setta without the thong attached in the middle, but with this product, you can experience the traditional way of wearing Setta.

The ideal way to wear them is to leave a small gap between the thumb and index finger without attaching the thong.

This is stylish and also reduces pressure from the thong, making it less likely to slip off.

(2)Setta has no left or right side.

There is no left or right side to geta, so they can be worn on either the right or left foot.

However, people have their own foot habits.

Some people wear down the outer side more.

Others wear down the inner side more.

By regularly switching between the left and right sides, you can wear down the soles evenly without wearing them down diagonally, thereby extending the life of the soles.

Setta are a uniquely Japanese product born from Japan's “mottai-nai” culture of valuing things.

To honor that spirit, even zori sneakers feature a symmetrical design, allowing for regular switching between left and right.

(3)wear with sound

DSC07729.JPG

Setta have iron pieces called betagane or horseshoes attached to the heel, and it is considered stylish to walk while making a jingling sound with them.

However, this can be slippery on modern road surfaces and is noisy, so we incorporated this element into the design of the outsole.

The outsole design adopts the Bishamon-tenshi tortoise shell pattern used in the armor of Bishamon-ten, one of the Seven Lucky Gods, who is said to bring wealth and good fortune.

Like equipping armor on the feet, this design represents a tough yet lightweight product.

④  Healthy just by wearing them.

DSC07651.JPG

There is no tightness around the toes, and the excellent breathability prevents the toes from getting sweaty, making them comfortable to wear.

Please experience the attractive functionality of “unda-雲駄-” which is packed with various features.

The footbed fabric is made in Kyoto.

It is a denim-like fabric made from Kyoto kasuri dyed yarn, which is durable and resistant to abrasion. (Top fabric: 88% cotton, 12% rayon)

Zori sandals are traditionally made with bamboo bark on the outside. This fabric was chosen to express the randomness and roughness of the color of bamboo bark.
