The issues that arose were “weight,” “water resistance,” and “the inability to replace worn-out tops.” In response, we continued to experiment with different sole materials and new top fabrics.
Finally, this time, while maintaining the design, we have achieved a new-generation Setta with “ultra-lightweight,” “washable,” “superior durability,” and enhanced functionality through EVA material one-piece molding technology.

EVA is a material with softness and elasticity that is also used in computer cases for impact protection.
Taking advantage of these characteristics, we have taken the “cloud-like comfort” that is the origin of the name
“unda-雲駄-” to a whole new level.
② 50% lighter than conventional unda.
The initial release weighed 330g, and the following year it was reduced to 270g. This time, it has been further reduced to 131g, achieving a “super” weight reduction of 60% compared to the initial release.

The biggest difference between the previous “unda-雲駄-” and “unda EVA” is their water resistance. They can now be used even when your feet get wet. They can also be washed when dirty.
The softness and elasticity of the material dissipates the impact of walking, making them durable and a model that can be worn for a long time.
④ A new, redesigned shape.
The appearance remains unchanged, but “unda EVA” has been realized through EVA integral molding technology.
Fine adjustments have been made to the material to improve comfort.
・Reconstructing the shape of the thong
This was one of the most difficult points this time. Foot size, toe thickness, and instep height vary from person to person.
We had many people try on samples and made adjustments in increments of a few millimeters to arrive at the optimal solution.
When trying to reproduce the original shape of the thong, the material is completely different, so it hurts the toes.
We reviewed and reconstructed the shape of the base and the length and thickness of the toe from scratch to match the EVA molded construction.
・Reproducing the unevenness of the fabric
The unique texture of unda's coarsely woven cotton rayon fabric has been reproduced to the utmost degree.
Not only does it look good, but the moderate unevenness of the fabric improves grip and reduces moisture buildup.
In addition, the footbed is shaped to fit the contours of the foot, enveloping it in a circular arc.
・The identity of Air is inherited as a design feature.
With the EVA material used this time, it was difficult to incorporate the air unit that is unda's identity, so we incorporated the
air unit design into the design.
In addition to the design, we also considered practicality in terms of cushioning and made it as deep as possible while still being manufacturable with a mold.

There is no distinction between left and right in Setta, so they can be worn on either the right or left foot.
People tend to have foot habits, and it is common for the outer and inner sides of the soles to wear unevenly, but by regularly switching between left and right, you can even out the wear and extend the life of the soles. Setta are a uniquely Japanese product born from Japan's “mottainai” culture of not wasting things.
To carry on this spirit, the “unda EVA” also features a symmetrical design that allows you to switch sides regularly, just like the “unda -雲駄-.”

The most stylish and cool way to wear Setta is to leave your little toe and heel exposed.
For this reason, we recommend choosing a smaller size.
Unlike sandals, Setta have a thong in the middle, so your little toe will inevitably stick out.
While you may see Setta with the thong not in the center these days, we encourage you to experience the traditional way of wearing them with this product.
The ideal way is to leave a small gap between the thumb and index finger without attaching the thong.
This is stylish and also reduces pressure from the thong, making it less likely to slip.
